Massey University's College of Creative Arts engaged HMOA to design three options of differing scope and scale for their proposed National Academy of Screen Arts.
The academy will be part of Massey's Wellington campus – centrally located for future students and staff to easily access both the city and other university faculties.
All three options feature sound stages, studios, screening rooms and teaching facilities and had to be assessed for future 5 Green Star Certification.
HMOA modelled, scheduled and quantified all the building materials for a Whole of Life Carbon Assessment that was carried out by Beca. All three options demonstrated more than the 10% less embodied carbon than a 'standard practice' reference building – a condition of version 1.1 of Green Star. A wide range of ESD initiatives were integrated into the concept design feasibility study.
