On the waterfront in the Auckland suburb of Devonport, we worked in association with Opus International Consultants to relocate the Navy Museum into the heritage Minelaying Buildings at Torpedo Bay. The museum includes exhibition and gallery spaces, a classroom, meeting room, administration functions and a cafe. Some spaces open directly onto landscaped exterior exhibition areas and a new maritime park, which connects historic North Head with the waterfront boulevards.
“Working to a tight budget on a historic site, HMA and Opus have produced a fine little institutional museum,” John Walsh, Architecture NZ, 6-2010.
