Marahau Beach Resort
Unbuilt Project, Nelson
Unbuilt Project, Nelson
Positioned along one of New Zealand’s most beautiful stretches of coastline at the entrance to the Abel Tasman National Park, this proposed Beach Resort at Marahau was designed to be in harmony with the surrounding landscape. Our proposed scheme included a main hotel building and a collection of mostly single-level accommodation units spread across the 14 hectare site with environmentally sustainable principles at the forefront.
A simple palette of materials was proposed to anchor the resort to the environment: rough-sawn timber posts, naturally weathered and stained plywood and stone walls. Our design featured details inspired by traditional Māori pattern-making to reference the rich cultural history of the area.
